Hey beau’s ! It’s been a long week for me with my grandma passing. My family decided to get out of the house and have some fun so we went to see Black Panther. The 12 of us piled into a few cars and then lines two rows in the theater. The movie was soooooooooooooooo good, I was literally on the edge of my seat for half the movie. Can I just say I loved the representation of women’s strength and power? I also loved all the fine eye candy in the movie, heeeeeyyyyy Michael B Jordan ;). But seriously I recommend you round up your gyals or take your guy out and go see it! I was a little disappointed with some of the African accents, but impressed by the authentic Swahili. The costumes were AH-MAZING I couldn’t stop myself from cheering when I saw Jordan with his black panther suit with the leopard print mask!
Now let’s talk about what I word. My look consisted of a striped shift dress with a red rose print that I purchased at Ross Dress for Less for only $10.99. As soon as I laid eye on it I knew I had to have it. The print reminded me of Betsey Johnson and you babes know I live for Betsey. I accessorized the look with a black and gold striped clutch that was actual Betsey Johnson and so we’re my black bow sandals. I completed the look with a bare face and a bold red lippie.
Walking up the street to the event, hearing hip hop jams blared through the air. As we took the elevator up, our excitement also rose. One wall had a complete mural which I of course used as my backdrop 🙂 I had so much fun watching the runway show. Courtney had so many beautiful gowns as well as a sequins duster, a fringe skirt, a faux fur coat and chic two piece sets. All the things girls love 🙂
My fellow designer and friend Mone accompanied me to the event, wearing a dope jacket of her own creation. She also caught me taking selfies LOL. I wore a Fatshion Forward original; a two piece velvet set. Crop top and A-Line skirt paired with a knit cardigan with faux shirt cuffs and collar.
Jonquel’s AH-MAZING Art lined the walls everywhere. Bloggers and models dancing, mingling and shopping. There was even a sketch of each model in their runway look (See slides below). @QueenOfTheTurnTables was on the 1’s and 2’s, that’s right they even had a plus size DJ. The event was so much fun reconnecting with my blogger boo’s and meeting some new ones. I hope it becomes an annual thing.
OOTD #78: On Day 1 of the TCF Style Expo I wore a leopard print button up shirt with cold shoulder cut outs paired with a burnt orange circle skirt for the day event. I accessorized look with Betseyville by Betsey Johnson black bow sandals and glitter leopard purse shaped like lips.
I purchased this dress at the expo from LYfeStylzPlus’s boothe. The gold lace design initially caught me eye by the long train and the stretch scuba fabric sold me on it. Dress featured long sleeves, body con skirt with an floor length train attached the back, it also had flyaways peplum style right at the waist. The short length flattered my legs and the flyaways flattered my hips. I absolutely loved this dress, the long train made me feel like royalty.
The venue for the first Plus Size Men’s Fashion show was loft in uptown Manhattan. Every seat was filled as the music blared. The host announced the first brand, MVP Collection. The plus size male models descended from up stairs as the worked the runway around and through the crowd the cheering ladies. The clothes were high quality and trendy for men of various ages and lifestyles. The styling was on point I loved the accessorizing of hats and the layered looks. A grey button up shirt, black tee, dark denim, canvas sneakers accessorized with a small brim hat. I can see a lot of guy wearing this look layering and un-layering the shirts as the season change. The second I found out Betsey Johnson was coming to Miami, Florida I knew I had to be there. I have been a fan of her work for over 8 years. She is my favorite fashion designer of all time. Her whimsical, femme, punk aesthetic is fun and I love that her designs are out of the box. My favorite things to buy from Betsey Johnson are her handbags and her jewelry. But with 50 years of fashion under her belt she has dabbled in almost every department from women’s & children’s apparel, home decor & bedding, bridal, athletic wear and dancewear. I travelled about 12 hours round trip thanks too Miami’s awful traffic but I arrive at the DadeLand Mall at 10:30, a little. At the entrance of Macy’s sat a huge black shiny roller skate car.
The roller skate car acted as the head of the parade, as a trail of Betsey paraphernalia followed. It was so exciting and refreshing the way the mannequins were posed and styled. It added a certain sophistication to such a youthful collection.
There were fresh flower bouquets around the store similar to the pink rose petals Betsey made rain down on the crowd in the store. Decorations dangled from the ceiling, and we’re printed on the wall. It was like stepping into Betsey World. Betsey floated down the escalator with her entourage greeting the crowd, her DJ and her team members. She was full of energy as she danced around to the music, the security guards couldn’t keep up with this 74 year old. The store was decorated beautifully to celebrate the collaboration between Betsey Johnson and Macy’s for the new DreamWorks movie Trolls. The merchandise displays were so bright and colorful they really screamed Betsey and beckoned people from all corners of the store. The displays featured her famous Kitsch bags, shoes and other little Betsey keepsakes. I love how youthful this collection is very junior esq but still incorporating current trends like the faux fur pom poms.
The merchandise displays were filled with pink and blue faux fur, glitter, googly eyes and gold. I shopped around the store fell in love with a pair of black faux suede slip on sneakers that had fluffy faux fur pom poms. I will be reviewing my shoes next week and I will also be talking about what I wore to meet Betsey so check back for that. I was first in the V.I.P. line and absolutely nervous to meet Betsey.
V.I.P.’s recieved a Betsey selfie stick and a pack of hair ties inside a big pink tote bag. We also recieved a hard copy of our photo with Betsey and Macy’s gift card.
I sat next to her on the ivory leather couch with pink and silver sequins pillows. I told her I was a long time fan and loved her work. We posed for a quick photo op and then I proceeded to show her my 3-D Betsey inspired nails. She loved them and then showed me her nails. Betsey was very sweet and friendly, I hope to meet her again in this lifetime. Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore Betsey Johnson. My betsey collection is strong and growing and I am planning to start a haul series so you babes can see some of my collection.
Here are seven of my favorite pieces from this collection:
