My Favorite Looks From The Met Gala

“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” was the theme for this years Met Gala. Lace veils, headdresses, long trains, and jeweled embellishments we’re seen at every turn as the theme inspired  looks took the Gala steps. Here are my favorites looks from the event, first up Rita Ora wearing Prada.I loved everything about this look from the floral headdress to the elegant Prada gown with it’s long sheer train, low back and multicolored colored details. Not to mention the long sequins gloves. Rita Ora served us with grace in her Prada, and you can tell by her posture that she felt like a queen in this gown. You know pink is my guilty pleasure and Tracee Ellis Ross is making it look oh so fabulous. Am I the only one catching Diana vibes ? I am also seeing some vintage inspiration in this Michael Kors Collection gown. Is it the glitter, the thick waist belt or maybe it’s Tracie’s hair? Whatever it is I am hear for it !
Here is another look that mesmerized me. So many things to adore about this gown Bee Shaffer wore to the Gala. First there is the ruffle one shoulder neckline that goes around and drops off the other shoulder and ties into a bow. Bows are another guilty pleasure I have. This shade of red definitely exudes power especially in such a voluminous proportion. Last but not least the scalloped skirt on this Valentino Haute Couture gown sealed the deal for me. Next up is Zenday-Bay-Bay in her Catholic chivalric suit of armor gown. I really appreciated that Daya took a different approach at the theme no headdress or fluffy romantic gown her. She looked like a warrior princess with her layered bodice and sleeves that resembled metal plates similar to the armor of Knights of the Catholic Church wore. Zendaya slayed in this Versace gown, someone definitely did their homework. Also in Versace, Music artist SZA took my breath away in this blush colored gown. Musical artist appeared soft and romantic from the waist up with her sweetheart neckline. But from the waist down demanded attention with voluminous layers of tulle and chiffon. She completed the look with embellished, pointed toe, thigh high boots and a half sphere rose gold headdress.
Cardi B’s is queen of the music charts right now and she came through dressed as such in this embellished Moschino gown. Glowing from head to toe the pregnant artist was accompanied by Jeremy Scott (head designer for brand Moschino) wearing a coordinated look to Cardi’s. Can you say “drip drip”? Cardi and Jeremy came through dripping in pearls and jewel tone stones the pair looked like royalty.Yara Shahidi looks oh so chic in her Chanel cocktail dress. I love the voluminous layers effect of the under dress in combination with the sparkly smooth overlay. I feel like the theme was a bit of a miss with this look but I still love it anyway. Yara thinking was probably you can never go wrong with a dress from Chanel and she was right.
Another dress I found rather uninspired by the theme but just fell in love anyway was this plum, velvet overall gown by Valentino. Cynthia Erivo saved the look by accessorizing with jewelry by both Eva Fehren and Maria Tash. Her dramatic nails and bold hair color choice made the look overall interesting but not as over the top with Catholic symbols as her peers.Dripping in liquid gold the bodice of this gown looks painted on actress Kerry Washington. This Ralph Lauren gown does all the work minimal accessories, makeup and hair styling need to steal the show. I also love the big hair big hem look it make her waist look EXTRA snatch.

Last but not least the blonde and the beautiful Blake Lively. Where to start? The beautiful beading detail on the bodice that fans out all over the skirt and train. Or the luxe color fabric combination, impeccable fit and dramatic train. This Versace gown is so amazing, the sheer panels allow a sexy peak-a-boo that elongated Blake’s already long legs. So much to take in from every angle this gown was absolutely gorgeous.

Who wore or designed your favorite Met Gala look? Let me know if the comments below, I love hearing from you babes ! Xo, Sherece.

WHAT I WORE TO THE DINNER

OUTFIT OF THE DAY #77: Something New
My family was in town so we all got together and went to Sushi & Grill Restaurant for dinner.  Since we we’re trying some new food, I was inspired to try a new look. I’ve been dying to wear this new skirt I made, so I based the look around it. I purchased this lavender color fabric in the Spring during a trip to NYC. I fell in love with the fabric’s subtle giraffe print and soft hand.  Last week blogger and designer Mone convinced me to try pastel colored lipstick. I thought this look would be the perfect time to bust out  my NYX lavender lippie I bought at the Make Up Show Orlando earlier this year.Keeping the train rolling with these fashion firsts,  I accessorized my look with a black knit turban, pointed toe flats and Betsey Johnson Camera Kitsch Bag. Kitsch Camera bag was a gift  birthday gift from my mom, it’s been one of my most steady summer accessories. The cross body strap allows hands free carrying which I love when I’m on the go. I can have my hands free to snack, take selfies, or text. I fell in love with the turban it added a cultured yet chic element to the look, this piece will definitely be a repeat offender.  Tank: Ross | Skirt: Fatshion Forward (by me) | Handbag: Betsey Johnson | Shoes: Charlotte Russe | Lipstick: NYX Pin Up Pout Lippie (Wisteria – Neon Lavender)

How To Wear Floral Print For Fall?

Outfit of the Day #61: Chocolate x Roses
4fatshionforward_ootd61 Hey Girl Hey ! Here is my first OOTD since my return. I’m so excited Florida is finally getting chill enough for my fall wardrobe. This chocolate brown sweater  is one of latest thrift finds. Sweater features a cap sleeve and a cowl neck sweater. I love thrift shopping, it allows you to add a ton of style, fun, and vintage to your wardrobe but on a budget. You can find some rare gems that are no longer in store inventory. Remember one woman’s trash is another woman’s vintage treasure.
2fatshionforward_ootd61 I had a reader recently email me asking how she incorporate her summer floral into the fall and winter season. I told her to conquer the dark floral first since they are easier to match with the seasons color palette. But if your looking for a real challenge grab a floral with pinks, purples, blues and other bold colors. Pick a solid color within the floral print to highlight by wearing a top of the same color. Or you can just go for something neutral like white, black or nude. I wanted to go bolder so I chose this rich chocolate brown.
1fatshionforward_ootd61 This skirt is a Fatshion Forward original designed and made by me. Not sure how many of your know Wal-Mart sells fabric but they do and sometimes when I am just cruising for groceries or picking up from the Pharmacy I check out their inventory. They had this crepe back satin on sale for summer clearance during my last trip. I purchase all the yardage that was left which was only 4.5 yard. I decided to make myself a pretty floral skirt out of it and inspire you fatshionistas not to pack up your summer floral just yet. Satin skirt features roses of various sizes and colors but in a mirrored effect pattern. I absolutely fell head over heads for this fabric the moment I laid eyes on it. Something about the roses and the mirrored pattern made the floral print feel so graphic and modern.
3fatshionforward_ootd61 5fatshionforward_ootd61Last but not least I accessorize neckline with a bow necklace and flower midi rings from Miss A.com. If you have never heard of Miss A you should check out the site, everything is $1 so extremely budget friendly. I mixed together to Wet N Wild Lipsticks to achieve this cranberry colored lippie. Never be afraid to experiment, Let your creative flag fly. Happy Fatshion Friday loves 🙂

Makeover Monday: Slithering Style

OUTFIT OF THE DAY #49: Slithering Style Re-Mix

9FatshionForward_OOTD49Hey Girl Hey, I put together my own outfit makeover and I can’t wait to give you all the details. But first things first do your remember OOTD #15? Well one day I was in a DIY mood and I wanted to revamp one of my old looks. I chose something I haven’t worn in a while but was on trend for the season. So I took to it with my scissors and ran it through my sewing machine. 5FatshionForward_OOTD49As you all know Snakeskin is all the rage on the runways for Fall this year. I gave the blouse a DIY makeover, if you interested in this project here is a tutorial. I have been seeing off the shoulder tops everywhere and wanted to give the trendy look a try. WARNING: If you don’t like to wear strapless bras (like me) this trend may not be your cup of tea. But I challenge you all to show off your shoulders like the weather still allows.

I paired this Snakeskin blouse with a pleated midi skirt similar to the long midi skirt I made in the original look. I accessorized outfit with my rose gold script “Create” necklace and faux leather Snakeskin clutch and flats. Get details on my “Create” necklace here.

These pointed toe flats are a chic and subtle way to try the trend if you’re on the fence. My review for the pointed toe snake skin flats will be live tomorrow so check back for that. The large clutch is one of my favorite recent thrift finds. One fashionista’s trash could be another one’s treasure. 1FatshionForward_OOTD49

Why I Love Polka Dots (And You Should, Too!)

STYLE EVOLUTION: POLKA DOT PARTY

In honor of Throwback Thursday I’m bringing you babes another style evolution. Polka Dot edition for all my flapper girls. Do I really need an excuse to love polka dots? They’re one of the most simple yet chic patterns a classic to fashion history. The first time polkadots were spotted in fashion was way back in 1926 maybe even before that. Minnie Mouse came out with her red polka dot dress and matching bow and America fell in love. Polka dots exploded and infected the fashion scene. It was everywhere dress, skirts, pants, accessories and even shoes. Polka Dots aren’t agist, sexist or prejudice. It’s used in mens wear, women wear, children’s wear and accessories. This iconic monochrome print is now seen in different colors and sizes but are still loved all the same.I have even gotten polka dots on my nails before.
