OUTFIT OF THE DAY #47: TCF Style Expo Look 1
This past weekend I was in Atlanta, Georgia attending “The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo“. On day one Marie had a two panels scheduled: “The Business of Plus Size Fashion” and “Styling 101: So You Want to Be a Plus Size Stylist?” Both panels were very insightful. I learned some new tips from the panelist and they also affirmed somethings that I was already doing. The first panel beginning at 10 A.M featured Susan Moses, Gwen Devoe, Chenise Lewis, Sarah Rae Vargas, Monif C and Nikki Free.
They spilled the tea about being in business in the plus size fashion industry, the good the bad and the ugly. They also cleared up some industry myths and gossip while clarifying the process in their rightful sectors. It was so interesting to listen to all their different points of view and experiences in the women’s various careers. Susan Moses is a celebrity stylist, blogger, guest editor, spokesperson and designer, her book is on my summer reading list. Gwen Devoe is a former plus model turned event coordinator, she is also the creator of “Full Figure Fashion Week”. Chenise Lewis is a hostess and runs her own podcast show. Sarah Rae Vargas is a vlogger whose topic list is endless. Monif Clarke is a fashion designer and the owner of the Monif C clothing brand. Last but not least the fabulous Nikki Free a fashion publicist and blogger.
“Styling 101: So You Want to Be a Plus Size Stylist?” was the second panel discussion that took place from 2PM – 4 PM on Friday. The panel was full of different types of stylist: Personal, Editorial, Studio, Celebrity and Wardrobe Stylist. Shun Melson, Reah Norman, Meaghan O’Connor, Patrick and Nadia of Dia & Co were all on the panel. The group talked about industry experience and also shared some tips and tricks of the trade. They were honest about their careers as stylists and what it took them to get there. I think Marie did a great job putting together the panel discussions they were very informative and I learned quite a bit from all the speakers collectively.
Now let’s talk about this look, I honestly didn’t know what the heck to wear to the Expo. I just knew I didn’t want to look like anyone else or risk wearing the same thing as someone else. I started off this look with a plain white fit and flare dress. Dress featured a wide scoop neckline and a flirty knee length hem. I made a skirt of a sheer burgundy fabric that featured a raised black suede leopard print texture. Skirt definitely was the star of the look, I just wore it over the dress to give an overlay effect. I accessorized outfit with a black faux leather handbag and oxfords.
